"Do you have a library card? Because I want to check you out!" Have you ever heard this phrase before? It's typically used as a pick-up line, a very cheesy pick-up line. This phrase does not in any way describe a man who is smooth. This would be an antonym for smooth. Yet, there is many different connotations for the word smooth.
One connotation of the word smooth could be a man who knows how to talk to the ladies. He knows what to say to the females of the world. They know how to talk and how to act, they could be a gentleman. Another connotation of smooth is level. Such as, the glass was much more smooth before it was broken. This connotation usually refers to something that is in one piece and isn't lumpy or bumpy or something similar to that. One more connotation of smooth could be to make peace. One could smooth over a dispute between two parties. These are just a few of the connotations of smooth.
In conclusion, smooth can be used many different ways and has many different connotations. You never know how many different ways you could use a word. So next time in a conversation, you might want to consider the connotations of the words you use in life.
