Secrets don't make friends.
Sante writes any essay about secrets. Sante gives three breakdowns of secrecy: Soviet Union/ KGB, internet, and "confessional culture"/media. I would agree that internet is a nemesis to secrecy because you can find out a lot online. There's everything from movie listings to why Lindsay Lohan  got arrested again. The Soviet Union/KGB would be under secret societes because they know the "three-finger handshake" so to speak. The media has a plethora of secrets. Sure, there's the one's that the papparazzi here about and you see on the cover of People but there's also the one's that only a select few know about. For instance, when someone wins on a show, unless it's Wheel of Fortune or something like that, then the person who won knows, but most likely the public won't know until three weeks later.

I do not think that values and ethics should be taught in school. I feel that people should already be taught ethics and values by their parents. It should not be the duty of the school to teach values and ethics. I feel that if they were taught in schools, then everyone would all be the same and that would just be boring. I mean who wants to be the same as everyone else? Certainly not me. Parents should teach their kids values and ethics, and then the child should grow up and learn their own values and ethics and what they feel is important in life. I feel that everyone's ethics and values will not nor will they ever be, the same. Just like no two thumbrints are alike, values and ethics should not be alike. At least, everyone should know to be polite and treat people how you want to be treated.

Movies! Everybody loves them, including me. There are several different types of movies and several different categories within each type of movie. There are comedy movies, horror movies, romance movies, science-fiction movies, action movies, and documentry movies. Within comedy movies there are other categories such as romantic comedies, raunchy comedies, witty comedies, and cheesy comedies. Personally, I like the romantic comedies, such as Confessions of a Shopaholic, and the witty comedies, such a Sherlock Holmes. Comedies are usually movies that are meant to make someone laugh and have a light-hearted feel to them. Within horror movies there are categories such as thriller, mystery, real-life,  and slasher. Horror movies really freak me out yet I still watch them. Some examples are,  Shutter Island for thriller, The Uninvited for mystery, When a Stranger Calls for real-life, and A Nightmare on Elm Street (the 2010 version) for slasher. Horror movies are usually filled with suspense and murder, with some intrigue thrown in there, but above all they are drenched in stupidity. Stupidity as in, they split up, or they go towards the creepy noise, or they go to see what something is instead of runnin the other direction...but it does make for a good scare. Within romance movies...well there's pretty much just romance movies within romance movies. These movies are usually exteremely dramatic and have a lot of kissing scenes. An example would be The Notebook. Within science-fiction movies there's the cheesy and the awesome. For cheesy there would be Manos: the Hands of Fate and for awesome would be the new Star Trek movie.Usually science-fiction movies are about a made up world with strange adventures occur.  There aren't really any sub-categories within action movies either. Some examples would be: Vantage Point, Die Hard, and I am Legend. Action movies are usually very loud, with a lot of explosions around every corner. Some action movies have a mystery to them, like Vantage Point, which make them 10 times better! Like action movies, there isn't really any sub-categories in documentary movies. Except for maybe, boring and interesting being the categories. I would say that these might be my least favorite to watch. In the boring categorie would definitely be March of the Penguins, I literally fell asleep during this movie, no joke. Then again, Morgan Freeman was narrating the movie and he does have a very soothing voice. Under the interesting category would be Food, Inc. and Super Size Me. Usually documentary movies are informational about a certain topic the director is passionate about. I feel that there is a very fine line between a boring documentary and an interesting documentary. All in all, there are many different and fantastic movies. A great movie is one that captivates it's audience and is generally enjoyed by all.

Self Check
1. I feel that I have answered the prompt and answered it well.
2. I feel that my thesis could have been stronger but overall it was pretty good.
3. I feel that my essay is focused on a central idea and the body paragraphs are well linked together.
4. I have focused on 1-2 main ideas instead of trying to cover too many things.
5. My essay does indeed include specific details and quotations from the text.

Reflection
1. My introduction paragraph went quite well.
2. My conclusion didn't go very well, it could have been stronger.
3. If I had more time, I would add more to my conclusion.
4. Pretty much my essay was organzied how I planned it to be.
5. I didn't really have any additional insights while writing my essay.

Culminating Writers Profile
1. My writing style has changed a bit since I've started AP English Language and Composition because I've learned new ways to write and what not write. Whereas last year I was making big mistakes which put my essays at a lower level than they are beginning to be in this class.
2. I would say that my strengths as a writer belong in the creative aspect. I haven't really done any creative writing yet but I may be using my creativity while writing the classification essay.
3. I still see weakenesses in writing essays where I need to analyze something. This year, we've done more of those but I still need to wrap my brain around them, I'm more of a sunburst thinker. When you analyze something you need to be a straight line thinker.

Evaluating Your Writing Process
1. If I had more time to do another draft of my essay, I would definitely try my best to get down the number of to be verbs I used.
2. As I recieved peer feedback the easiest thing to revise was the diction, choosing better words, and structure, making the essay flow more,  throughout my essay.
3. My biggest problem in writing and revising this essay was not using to be verbs. Usually I just use them willy-nilly and I don't care how many I have but this year I have to slim down my use of the verbs.

Evaluating Your Successes
1. My most successful revision would be changing a story that was in my essay to another story that flowed better.
2. I feel that I was more successful using descriptive and narrative elements rather than illustrative because I described more than I did illustrate I guess.
3. My best success was making the reader feel that they could relate to my stories.

Being Honest with Self
1. I was most intimidated by the fact that it was a "major out of class essay". For some reason, that just made it feel that much more intimidating. Though, once I got started, it wasn't that bad.
2. When we read the Box Man it influenced my writing approach to this essay.
3. I didn't really pick up much from reading student essay example because I don't really remember reading any.
4. I learned to use better diction to make my essay more powerful from my peer, Nicole.
5. I see myself as an average writer who definitely has room for improvement in the near future.

There can be two different nobody's. One is someone who feels left out and has no one around them. Another is physically no body in the room or area. These two different nobodys are vastly different.  Nobody wants to be a nobody.
Someone who is a nobody is usually thought of as loser, a loner, or a freak. They usually sit by themselves, not talking to anyone. This person might be a nobody because they are socially inept and be painfully shy. Despite nobody desiring to be a nobody, there is still nobodies. Nobody is when you walk into a room or go somewhere, and you are the only one there. Making the statement, "Nobody's here" true.

After reading Tuesdays with Morrie, I realized that I wasn't living really. I mean, I am alive, but I don't live everyday to the fullest. If reading Tuesdays with Morrie has taught me anything it's that you need to appreciate your life, and live it to the fullest! If one doesn't live life to the fullest, then one may be looking back on their life wondering, "Well, what if i had done that?" or "What would it have been like if i did this differently?". Morrie strongly discourages this to happen, he feels that life is a gift, that's why we call it the present. Now he didn't say those exact words, but he said it in so many ways. If Albotm had never had his Tuesdays with Morrie, then Albom would have just been living for accomplishments. Yes, this is rewarding in a way, but it isn't satisfactory to your life philosophically.

"Do you have a library card? Because I want to check you out!" Have you ever heard this phrase before? It's typically used as a pick-up line, a very cheesy pick-up line. This phrase does not in any way describe a man who is smooth. This would be an antonym for smooth. Yet, there is many different connotations for the word smooth.
One connotation of the word smooth could be a man who knows how to talk to the ladies. He knows what to say to the females of the world. They know how to talk and how to act, they could be a gentleman. Another connotation of smooth is level. Such as, the glass was much more smooth before it was broken. This connotation usually refers to something that is in one piece and isn't lumpy or bumpy or something similar to that. One more connotation of smooth could be to make peace. One could smooth over a dispute between two parties. These are just a few of the connotations of smooth.
In conclusion, smooth can be used many different ways and has many different connotations. You never know how many different ways you could use a word. So next time in a conversation, you might want to consider the connotations of the words you use in life.

I didn't really undertand how to do this one, but I'll give it a whirl!

Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser is mainly an argumentative book! It informs readers of the dirty and deadly secrets behind fast food corporations. He warns readers of the contents in fast foods, and what they don't tell you in the restaurant. Also, he tells you about the "behind-the-scenes" of the corporations, and how these chain restaurants acquire their foods. As I was reading this book, I had a permanant look of disgust upon my face. I couldn't believe the things I was reading were true! What a nightmare these things seemed to be! Eric Schlosser defines his argument extremely well and clearly.

Loss. It  happens to all of us eventually. We lose something or maybe even someone. Most of the time people associate loss with negative feelings and negative events. I wonder though, have those people ever thought off the positive aspect of loss? Loss can be a positive thing, it causes you to open your eyes to something knew. Maybe even something immensely better! When I was 8 I went to the countryside of New York with my family. We all went there because our family friend was getting married and she asked me to be her flower girl. I was so excited to be in a wedding, since I had never even been to one before. We got all packed up and headed down there, I brought along my stuffed lamb. My stuff lamb was named Lamby (what can I say I was little) and I had Lamby since I was born. She was with me on every trip we took and I couldn't wait for her to see New York. I had a great time being in the wedding, and it was the last day of our trip. We were all packed up and ready to go and off we drove towards the airport. I got home and couldn't wait for Lamby to come out of the suitcase. To my dimay, she was gone. Somehow she hadn't been packed and was still in New York. I cried for days and days about the loss of Lamby. One day I cam home and on my bed lay a new animal, this time a monkey. I named he Fifi and she became the new Lamby. So by experiencing the loss of Lamby, I eventually opened my eyes to something new. So, loss can be a good thing. It allows one to expand their horizans, so to speak. It gets you to try new things, maybe something you thought would be awful. Can you believe loss can do all that? So next time you lose something, think of the new possibilities.

When we talked about the "Box Man" in class, something that we talked about was conformity and non-conformity. I feel that there is such a thing as non-conformity. If there wasn't such a thing, then everyone would be exactly the same, doing the same thing, in the exact same way. Obviously, the aforementioned is not true. If it were then there would only be one option to go to school, one career path, one food to eat, one thing to wear, and one way to talk. In some things, though, there is conformity because if I someone strutting down the halls in some fabulous outfit, then if I feel like it would look good on me, I join the trend. So conformity is seen a lot in fashion. One place that non-conformity should be present more is with peer pressure. I feel that there should be way less people trying to get there friends follow them down the path of drugs/smoking/drinking. This is a situation where there should be non-conformity. I feel that if there is non-conformity there, then a lot more people could say, "No, that's not my style." or something to that effect. Overall there is definitely non-conformity.

I admit, this blog was more tough for me to do because I really could not think of two things that were different but ironically similar. Finally I thought of something. Two things that are different but ironically similar are, Harry Potter and Voldemort. They're two different people but there are some similarities. Such as, both Harry and Voldemort have the ability of parseltongue, which is the ability to speak to snakes. Also, both have the same kind of wand. One more way they are similar is that a piece of Voldemort's soul is in Harry. There are also things that set the two men apart. First off, Harry is good while Voldemort is predominately evil. At Hogwarts, Voldemort was in the Slytherin house. While Harry is in the Gryffindor house. That's how both are different but ironically similar.
